Businesses in Scotland
In 2007, there were 279,495 private sector enterprises operating in Scotland, with associated employment of 1.9 million. SMEs (enterprises with fewer than 250 employees) made up 99% of all enterprises and provided 53% of all jobs. However, the 2,265 large enterprises operating in Scotland accounted for 58% of turnover.
