Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Statistics
At June 2007 a total workforce of 67,200 was employed on 51,000 agricultural holdings in Scotland.The workforce consisted of 41,200 occupiers and spouses and 26,000 employees.
The number of working occupiers on farms decreased by just over two per cent to 27,200. The number of spouses working on the farm also fell, by less than two per cent to 14,000.
The number of hired employees working regularly on farms decreased slightly to 20,300 with the number of full-time employees falling to 13,250 and part-time employee numbers increasing to 7,050. The number of casual and seasonal staff increased by over 20 per cent to 5,600.
Hired labour costs increased by 2.7 per cent to £284.0 million in 2007.
