Sustainable Farming - Rural Economy

High Level Summary of Statistics Trend Last update: Tuesday, May 06, 2008

Rural Economy

Between 2002 Q4 and 2004 Q4, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing annual growth rates were higher than for the economy as a whole. Beyond this point, annual growth rates for the sector are below the annual growth rates of the economy as a whole although it should be noted that the annual growth rates for this sector are volatile.

Agriculture remains the dominant land use in rural areas, and whilst difficult to quantify, both its direct impact upon the environment and indirect impacts (e.g. tourism) should be acknowledged.

Agricultural GVA

Note: the methodology for estimating quarterly GVA for this sector was revised in October 2006.
