Households with individual(s) who need regular help or care because they are sick, disbaled or elderly

SHS - Data trends - 2009 Q2 - Help or care

Commentary

Around 13 per cent of households contain at least one person who needs regular help or care.

The apparent quarter-to-quarter fluctuations in the figures may well be the result of sampling variability. Quarter-to-quarter changes should therefore be interpreted with caution. The question asked was changed in 2007 and this may be the reason for the increase from that year onwards.

Notes

1 In 2007 the way this question is asked changed. Previously, question HF3 asked if anyone in the household required help or care and, if yes, up to three household members were identified at question HF4. These questions have now been collapsed into a single question.
