HOW TO GET RESULTS
Published Reports
The simplest way to get results on the Scottish Household Survey (SHS) is to examine the reports and articles that have already been published. These contain tables with Scotland and LA SHS results (bi-annual).
These are available on the Publications page and include Annual reports for 1999/2000, 2001/2002, 2003/2004, 2005 and their relevant technical reports (questionnaire, methodology and fieldwork outcomes).
Quarterly results for Data Trends for Social Justice, Transport and Housing are also available.
Data Tables
An interactive tables facility containing SHS data for national and LA level data for 1999/2000, 2001/2002 and 2003/2004 can be found at the webtables page. Results can be obtained for 1999/2000, 2001/2002 and 2003/2004.

For SPSS users, the syntax used to construct these tables can be downloaded here.
How to access the data
Anonymised copies of the full and SHS Lite datasets collected in the survey for all years have been deposited with the UK Data Archive, together with supporting documentation to facilitate wider access to, and analysis of, the information gathered.
The Data Release Procedures report contains information on the SHS and National Statistics; Internal data access and management prior to publication; release timing and arrangements; access to the SHS database; and other publications from SHS data.
If you would like to analyse the data yourself a simplified version of the SHS data and a training guide ( SHS Lite -User Guide: A guide to using the Scottish Household Survey simplified dataset) are now available. The data CD and a hard copy version of the training guide are available free of charge from the SHS project team. Please fill in the registration form and send to the SHS team. SHS Lite versions of 1999-2000, 2001-2002 and 2003-2004 data are now available.

Replicating tables in the Annual report
To make it easier for our users to replicate tables in the Annual report, for instance for a particular local authority area, the SPSS (statistical software) syntax files used to generate the tables is now available.
There is a separate SPSS syntax file for each chapter: Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7 and one for Tables 6.61, 6.62. They download as one zipped file.

Please click here to download the SPSS syntax files for the 2005 Annual Report.
Please click here to download the SPSS syntax files for the 2003/4 Annual Report.
If you have any questions concerning these files - please contact the SHS project team.
These syntax files will also available on request from the UK Data Archive.
