Tayside Region - Water & Soil

This table shows the regional priorities relevant to the region you have selected.

Each regional priority has a unique code (column one) which will help you to identify your selected priorities when completing your Statement of Intent/Proposal.

The detailed description (column two) has been provided to help you understand the implications and outcomes being sought by each priority.

The package numbers (column three) will help you to cross reference those relevant packages to the regional priority you have selected, with the full list of packages detailed on the right hand side of the page.

Water and Soils Priorities

Relevant Packages

TAY16

Reduced diffuse pollution from rural land uses. Particularly proposals that:

  • support actions where applicants are proposing water quality improvements with appropriate water and soils, plans and nutrient budgets demonstrating how the options proposed address identified risks and opportunities. Such proposals should take account of priorities for action identified in the Tay and other River Basin Management Plans
  • provide for improved slurry storage and treatment especially where an existing problem will demonstrably be remedied (and where existing best practice/legislation will not address the problem) (see 1f also)
  • address the unfavourable condition of SSSI's in water catchments
  • support investments in slurry storage and handling systems which enable farm businesses to meet the revised Nitrates Action Programme in the areas known as the Strathmore/Fife zones (NB 'Fife' covers the area in Tayside part of Strathearn which is covered by the regulations).
27

TAY17

Improved water quality of surface water and ground water bodies supported by a 'Soils and Water Plan', with priority given to actions in Nitrate Vulnerable Zones, Bathing Water Catchments and Drinking Water Protected Areas. Particularly proposals that:

  • support the implementation of a soil and water plan for land businesses in the Strathmore/Fife NVZ and the Tayside bathing water catchment areas and drinking water protected areas.
27-30

TAY18

Good ecological status of at risk water bodies (including 1A category) through priorities identified in River Basin Management Plans. Particularly proposals that:

  • support actions identified as priorities by the Tay and other associated River Basin Management Plans in Tayside which will help category 1a water bodies at risk of failing to achieve good ecological status by 2015
  • promote action on improving in particular the status of the Perthshire Lunan chain, and the Loch Leven, Buddon Burn, Dean Water and Angus Lunan Water catchments.
27-30

TAY19

Sustainable flood management and reduced flood risk (including adaptation to climate change), through appropriate land management, particularly actions identified in River Basin Management Plans. Particularly proposals that:

  • seek support for actions to manage and mitigate against flood risk across Tayside by adopting appropriate land and river flow management practices which demonstrably reduce flood risk in flood prone areas including 'managed retreat' on flood plains.
32

TAY20

Improved protection in areas identified as most at risk from erosion, flooding, acidification and nitrate pollution, through appropriate management of existing habitats (e.g. low impact silvicultural systems in woodland) or the creation of appropriate habitats (e.g. floodplains and along river edges), or organic conversion or maintenance.
