Water and soils priorities

GRA16

Reduced diffuse point source pollution from rural land uses and housing. Particularly proposals which:

• take account of priorities for action identified in the Spey and Dee Catchment Management Plans
• support actions which will contribute to the improvement of category 1a areas which are at risk of failing achieve good ecological status by 2015 as identified in the North East River Basin Management Plan
• provide for improved nutrient budgeting
• target action within NVZ Areas.

GRA17

Improved water quality of surface water and ground water bodies supported by a 'Soils and Water Plan', with priority given to actions in Nitrate Vulnerable Zones, Bathing Water Catchments and Drinking Water Protected Areas. Particularly proposals which:

• support actions which will contribute to the improvement of category 1a areas which are at risk of failing to achieve good ecological status by 2015 as identified in the North East River Basin Management Plan.

GRA18

Good ecological status of at risk water bodies (including 1A category) through priorities identified in River Basin Management Plans. Particularly proposals which:

• support actions identified as priorities by the Spey and Dee Catchment Management Plans
• support actions which will contribute to the improvement of category 1a areas which are at risk of failing to achieve good ecological status by 2015 as identified in the North East River Basin Management Plan.

GRA19

Sustainable flood management and reduced flood risk (including adaptation to climate change), through appropriate land management, particularly actions identified in River Basin Management Plans. Particularly proposals which:

• seek support for actions to manage flood risk across Grampian by adopting appropriate land management practices which demonstrably reduce flood risk in flood prone areas, as identified in the indicative River and Coastal Flood Map (Scotland), particularly restoration of functional areas, historic risk areas and river SACs and 'managed retreat' on flood plains.

GRA20

Improved protection in areas identified as most at risk from erosion, flooding, acidification and nitrate pollution, through appropriate management of existing habitats (e.g. low impact silvicultural systems in woodland) or the creation of appropriate habitats (e.g. floodplains and along river edges), or organic conversion or maintenance. Particularly proposals which:

• demonstrably reduce or minimise the risk from land management actions in areas identified in the forthcoming North East River Basin Management Plan, Spey and Dee Catchment management Plans.
• mitigate the impact of acidification in potentially susceptible forest areas of Grampian through catchment-based assessments as identified under the Forests and Water Guidelines.
