The Land Reform Agenda included a requirement for a new database on rural landholdings to be set up.
A research project was set up to assess the need for improved information about land, which reported in November 2001. The study concluded that raising awareness of existing information provisions would be more useful than developing a new system; and the demand for information on beneficial ownership had no clear rationale. A booklet has been published in order to further publicise existing sources and to provide a one-stop shop so that those searching for information will be able to find out where it is likely to be held.
