Code of Good Practice for Rural Landownership

The Code of Good Practice for Rural Landownership is currently in draft form.

The Land Reform Policy Group's recommendations under 'Action without New Legislation' within the Land Reform Action Plan, included the development of a draft Code of Good Practice for Rural Landownership.

The progress of the draft Code of Good Practice for Rural Landownership can be seen under Section F2 in the Land Reform Action Plan.

The aim of this landownership Code is to set out good practice for those who own rural land which will enable the development of local communities and economies, safeguard the rural environment, wildlife and heritage, and facilitate responsible public access. Specifically, it will set standards on matters such as openness about their landholdings, local representation, community involvement and access.

A consultation paper was issued in October 1999 to members of the Consultative Panel on Land Ownership inviting views. As a result of further consultation, a draft code of Good Practice for Rural Landownership was produced.
