The Knowledge Transfer team provides strategic advice and support on social science knowledge brokerage and knowledge transfer and exchange across the Scottish Government, and leads on innovative collaboration with Economic and Social Research Council, other UK Research Councils, and European Research Institutes. The team co-ordinates the ESRC/SG Public Policy Seminar Series; the ESRC/SG PhD Scheme; the ESRC/SG Student Internship Scheme; and the ESRC/SG Placement Fellowship Scheme; and convenes knowledge sharing conversations, forums and events on priority policy issues for the Scottish Government. In addition to the schemes outlined below the Team facilitates Scottish Government collaboration with ESRC Programmes and Units.
Barry Stalker
Principal Researcher
Barry Stalker is team leader of the Knowledge Transfer team. Barry started his career at Ipsos MORI, the research consultancy, before joining the then Scottish Executive in 2003 as a Senior Researcher in the Education Department; a post which included managing the Scottish School Leavers' Survey longitudinal study and analytical work on the international education studies (PISA, PIRLS and TIMMS). Barry then moved to the Justice Department to join the Crime and Victimisation analytical team, as Principal Researcher and Project Director of the Scottish Crime & Justice Survey, before joining the Office of the Chief Researcher in March 2009. He holds an M.A. (hons) in History and Politics and M.Phil. in Social Science Research from the University of Glasgow, and is a Specialist Paralegal in Scots Criminal Law.

Aileen McIntosh

Aileen joined the Scottish Government in 2008 after working as an academic researcher for over ten years. As an academic researcher she worked mainly in health services research and in particular evidence based practice, including the development of evidence based clinical guidelines. As well as ongoing interests in health care, she has interests in professional behaviour, including professionals' use of evidence, and the use of evidence in policy making. She is a social researcher in the Knowledge Transfer Team, where she is Senior Research Officer.

Nicola Paterson
The Scottish Government Social Research, Office of Chief Researcher
Nicola joined the Scottish Government as a social researcher in 2008. She is a Research Officer in the Knowledge Transfer Team. Nicola has an honours degree in Politics and Social Policy from the University of Stirling and also a BA in Fine Art from the University of Dundee. She has an interest in housing policy and the contribution of voluntary organisations to policy making.
