3. Scotland's Ageing Population: Micro-simulation of the baby boomers
Award Holders: Professor D Bell, Professor A Bowes, Dr P Lambert, Dr V Sarajeva - University of Stirling
Summary: This project aimed to use microsimulation modelling of individual life histories to project policy-relevant aspects of population ageing in Scotland. The project is quantitative in nature and focused on microsimulations of how the care sector may change through time. It particularly focuses on:
- healthy life expectancy
- likelihood of receiving and/or giving informal care.
In addition, the research incorporates relevant literature regarding the impact of changing expectations of care and support in older age. The project calibrates an open-source microsimulation system to Scottish data from a variety of sources including focus groups.
