Scottish Crime and Justice Survey - Information for Interviewees

Information for Interviewees

If you have been selected for interview...

You will receive a letter explaining that you have been chosen to take part in the survey. This will include an information leaflet about the survey. An interviewer from TNS System Three will then call at your home. Interviews can take place in the evenings and at weekends as well as during working hours if that suits you. Every interviewer carries an ID card which he or she should always show you. If you have any doubts about their identity please telephone freephone 0800 018 0398 (9.30 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday) or email scottishcrimeandjusticesurvey@scotland.gsi.gov.uk

If you agree to be interviewed...

Many thanks, your participation is important in order to ensure that the survey is representative of everyone living in Scotland.

The interviewer asks questions and enters the responses into a laptop computer there and then. For some questions, you will have the opportunity to enter you answers directly into the laptop to maintain your privacy.

Interview length varies depending on your answers, but the average is about 40 minutes.

You do not have to answer any item if you don't want to - you can just refuse and the interviewer will carry on to the next one. You do not have to say why you did not want to answer.

After the interview...

The information you give will be combined with the information from all the other interviews carried out, to create statistics about crime in Scotland. It will be anonymous (i.e. no-one will be able to identify you from your answers) and will remain confidential.
