ROLE AND REMUNERATION

Role

The purpose of the Strategic Science Advisory Panel is to provide advice to SEERAD on its policies and strategies for funding research and development funded through the Science and Analysis Group, on the implementation of its research strategy and on the strategic development of the research programmes including horizon scanning.

The Panel will act as an advisory Task Force and will comprise 9 independent members (one of whom will be the chair). It will have no funds to direct research itself.

Members of the Panel are appointed as individuals, not as representatives of their particular profession, employer or interest group and have a duty to act in the public interest

Remuneration

Attendance at meetings will be remunerated at £175 per day plus up to £50 for preparatory work undertaken by members. The Chair will be remunerated at £250 per day for attendance at meetings plus up to £70 for preparatory work.

Appointment

Appointment as a member to the Strategic Science Advisory Panel will be for a period of 2 years, commencing on 1 January 2006 and ending on 31 December 2007.

Attendance

It is anticipated there will be a time commitment of 2 to 3 days per year although the frequency may be increased if necessary.

Conduct

All Panel members have a duty regarding conduct, propriety and confidentiality and must observe the highest standard of impartiality, integrity and objectivity as expected for those involved in any aspect of public life.
