Rural Land Use Study Project 1

PROJECT 1: CHANGING LAND USE IN RURAL SCOTLAND - DRIVERS AND DECISION-MAKING

Aims & Objectives

The overarching aim of Project 1 is to explore the various drivers and other factors involved in decision-making about how rural land is used. Its objectives are to:

  • synthesise evidence on actual and potential changes in land use in rural Scotland, and the factors driving change, to inform decisions affecting land use and land management;
  • inform debate on the implications of those changes for a variety of different actors, including land managers, government, the wider public sector, rural communities, and wider society;
  • provide evidence on who makes decisions about how land is used in rural Scotland, and how and why they make these decisions.

More detailed objectives are being addressed in two sub-projects:

Sub-project 1: Present and Future Drivers

Sub-project 2: Decision-making

The project is being carried out by a consortium consisting of the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute, Scottish Agricultural College, Forest Research and Humboldt University.
