Awards and commendations are made in three categories:

Outstanding performance and quality in development control or an aspect of the service;

Outstanding performance and quality in development planning or an aspect of plan making practice;

Outstanding performance and quality in development on the ground which is significantly attributable to the planning service. This may include a wide variety of outcomes, for example outstanding results of regeneration work or co-ordinated improvements in public spaces.

All awards, commendations, nominations and recognitions, 1997-2004, listed alphabetically by Council Area.

Outstanding work by or within planning authorities is the prime target of these awards, though work by other bodies such as consultants, community organisations or national agencies has not been excluded from nomination. Awards are recommended at the discretion of three independent judges subject to nominations of a suitable standard in each category.
