Deciding who should join

Who is the Learning Community for?

Getting it right for every child

Members of the Learning Community will act as representatives for:

  • their colleagues,
  • their areas of work,
  • and any other relevant groups or networks that they are part of.

The following criteria are desirable when identifying those who might have the most to contribute and the most to gain from participating with the Learning Community. It will be most suited to individuals who:

  • are significantly involved with development & implementation of a Getting it right approach (in whole or in part) - see core components for details
  • are suitably positioned to represent their peers and areas of work
  • are suitably positioned to filter information back into their own areas of work
  • can support other practitioners nationally and locally in the spirit of shared learning, as well as learn from the lessons of others
  • are motivated to improve outcomes for children, and embrace a proactive approach

As much as is possible, the Learning Community aims to achieve a typical spread of practitioners, implementers, Pathfinders, Scottish Government policy makers - including members of the Getting it right team itself - in its membership.

Only those who have been allocated a user name and password by the Getting it right team will be able to gain access to the Community website.

It is not intended that children, parents or members of the public will directly participate in the Learning Community in the near future - although they may link in via representatives from a relevant group or organisation.

PLEASE NOTE: In the context of the Learning Community, the term "practitioners" is intended to include professionals; agency, private sector and voluntary sector staff and volunteers; and any other adult who has a responsibility to support children, young people and their families.

Deciding who

Decisions about "the who" will need to be made locally by managers, teams, organisations and individuals. Involvement may need to be considered as part of a "bigger picture" relating to your local implementation/development plans and structure.

It is recommended that more than one person is allocated to represent each area so that they can share ideas and tasks.

The Learning Community is not designed to create extra work for practitioners, it is simply designed to be a facilitative tool to help people carry out the work they have already been tasked with in relation to Getting it right more effectively. Although possibly not suited to every individual's working style, it should, for many, offer unique benefits which should be entirely complimentary to alternative Getting it right communications activity.
