National Symposium for Action

National SymposiumThe national symposium brought together senior officials from agencies across Scotland. The event marked the commencement of the 2007 programme of engagement on Getting it right for every child that will include a wide range of stakeholders.

Over 170 delegates representing social work, health, education, police, SCRA and the voluntary sector at a senior level attended The National Symposium, including webcast attendees from Orkney council and NHS, and the Western Isles council.

The programme for the day comprised a series of updates about specific aspects of Getting it right and presented an opportunity for delegates to put questions, comments and ideas to the Deputy Minister for Education and a panel of Scottish Executive officials.

Four key issues or challenges were presented to delegates to trigger discussion, which resulted in approximately 220 questions and comments from the floor, collected by the 'Messenger' IT system. Each of these points has been addressed or responded to by the Getting it right team.

National SymposiumGetting it right for every child affects the delivery of all services for children and has at its heart the aim to improve outcomes for all children. Through your involvement in the national symposium we hope to address the topics raised, pick up issues identified and feed your thoughts and ideas into the process of implementation.

We intend to sustain and develop this engagement via events, training, the production of tools and materials, the delivery of presentations, and an information campaign. Information will also be supplied on the Getting it right for every child website.
