Letters of Assurance

No child in Scotland should have to tolerate neglect and abuse. The Executive, in partnership with Child Protection Committees, has put in place a range of measures to safeguard children and help parents who are not coping.

To protect children of substance misusing parents, we need to know who and where they are. This is why, in March 2006, Ministers sought assurances from all local authorities, health boards and the police that all reasonable steps are being taken to identify, assess and support children affected by parental substance misuse.

This page contains a report on the Letters of Assurance exercise, the original letter from Ministers, a supplementary letter from Colin MacLean, and all responses received.
