Pre-employment Checks
The List will significantly enhance the protection of
children but it is important to stress that it complements
rather than replaces other recruitment procedures.
All organisations entrusted with the care of children
need to practice the full range of pre-employment checks.
These include:
- interviews
- the full investigation of the applicant's
employment history
- taking up references
- obtaining Disclosures
- supervision during any probationary period
where practical.
It is also important for organisations to have robust
child protection policies and procedures in place and to
monitor the performance of staff on a regular basis.
