The 10th Anniversary of the Un Year of the Family will
be celebrated in Scotland in a variety of ways and will
focus on the
International Day of Families on May 15.

Families with a relative in prison - their journey from
arrest through to life after release. Speakers include
Cathy Jamieson, Minister for Justice; Hilary Campbell,
Chief Executive, Couple Counselling Scotland; Dr Nancy
Loucks, Independent Criminologist.
This conference supports the Celebration of the 10th
anniversary of the UN Year of the Family in Scotland, and
will explore the changing experiences and needs of families
who have a relative sentenced to custody as they journey
through the sentence period.
Who should attend:
This conference will interest statutory and voluntary
organisations working in family relationships, children and
families, mental health, social car and criminal justice.
The conference aims to have many delegates who are family
members affected by imprisonment so that their voices can
inform the debate.

designated for families affected by imprisonment (travel
expenses will be paid).

a competition organised by Family Mediation
Scotland to mark Families Day, August 29 2004 .
2004 is the 20
th Anniversary of family mediation being
available in Scotland . Family Mediation Scotland supports a
network of services in all parts of mainland and
island Scotland . Family mediation gives parents who
are separating or living apart the opportunity to make
their own arrangements for their children's future.

The aim of the event is to provide
information on services that support families and
communities around Oban and Lorn , focusing mainly on children. As you
may be aware there are numerous organisations within Argyll
and Bu te area working to promote children's
welfare issues, including eradicating poverty and promoting better health. By
bringing these organisations together to promote services
at a single event it is hoped to highlight
how they are working together to achieve their
aims.
In addition we will have details of
childcare provision and will be promoting childcare as a career and LearnDirect Scotland and Careers
Scotland will be there to give advice. .
On the day there will Family Challenges, Cheerleader displays and
workshops, craft workshops, climbing wall, Loopy Hoops (
toddler gymnastics) , face painting, Fire Service , Police
and Coastguard will be in attendance. There will be
opportunity to collect information and have
fun!!! Oban FM are providing the music and
there will be an outside broadcast and interviews some time
during the day.
