Early Education and Childcare - Introduction

Adult and child

Good quality early education and childcare services are vital in helping children to develop and grow, and in supporting their families in moving into or sustaining employment, training or education.

The Government works with a range of bodies across the public, private and voluntary sectors in taking forward the delivery of these services.

The Childcare Strategy aims to provide affordable, good quality childcare for all children aged 0-14 and Partnerships develop childcare services in local areas to meet demand

Childcare information services

Helplines and internet information services for local authorities, parents, providers and employers

Pre-school Education

Guidance on the provision of pre-school education by local authorities and their voluntary and private partners

Regulation

Regulation and inspection to promote high quality provision of daycare services for children under the age of 16, including pre-school establishments, nurseries, after-school clubs, or childminding services

Workforce Training and Qualifications

Work with the Scottish Social Services Council to ensure staff are appropriately qualified and, in the future, registered to work in the sector
