Training on violence against women is essential for developing an effective workforce within public agencies. Staff need to know how to provide a good service to those who experience such abuse and intervene effectively with perpetrators. Good awareness and knowledge is also important for managers who are planning services and supporting staff.

The Scottish Government encourages all sectors to view training on violence against women issues as 'core business', to demonstrate their commitment to this change of culture through leadership and to take responsibility for ensuring that appropriate standards of training are met. The government's domestic abuse/violence against women strategy is now past its original term but the basic principles remain. Find out more at:
