The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for Scotland's Gypsies/Travellers. Access to education is an essential element of social equality.
The Scottish Government's work to improve the educational outcomes of Gypsies/Travellers is implemented through our funding of the Scottish Traveller Education Programme (STEP) STEP is based at Edinburgh University and its remit is to develop and support inclusive educational approaches for Gypsies and Travellers.
It will support learning and teaching by enabling mobile children and their teachers to stay in touch during the travelling season.The Scottish Government have also allocated funding of £125,000 to the Scottish Traveller Education Programme (STEP) to set up a project to pilot an e - learning community for Scotland's Gypsy and Traveller children.
