SATELLITE GROUP NUMBER: 1 - DRAFT RECOMMENDATIONS

Draft Recommendation

The Scottish Executive should develop quality standards for disability equality training and encourage wider take up amongst employers and employees of disability equality training.

Core Group - accepted

Draft Recommendation

That the Scottish Executive should consider establishing and maintaining a business award on disability.

Core Group - recommendation should be passed to Scottish Enterprise to ensure that disability business awards are integrated into Scottish Enterprise's ongoing work on business awards. Accepted by Scottish Enterprise .

Draft Recommendation

That work should be undertaken to encourage positive attitudes to disability through a Scottish wide advertising campaign, which includes addressing attitudes to disabled people in employment.

Core Group - accepted

Draft Recommendation

That Jobcentre Plus should include in their advice on financial assessments and implications of employment information about the difficulties and additional responsibilities clients will face.

Core Group - redraft to make less negative and to reflect the fact the Jobcentre Plus is already doing work in this area. Should acknowledge good work being done and encourage it to continue.

Draft Recommendation

That the Scottish Executive should investigate the feasibility of regional level resources for sign posting disabled people and employers to information, advice and advocacy on disability.

Core Group - unfortunately this version of the recommendation was accidentally not the one that was put to the core group. Instead they got the previous version as follows:

That employment advice agencies should include clear and consistent messages about disability in their initial contacts with employers.

Core Group comments on this included that it was very broad and would benefit from targeting, that it seemed to be aimed primarily at Scottish Enterprise and that it would be important to clearly identify any messages.
