AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED BETWEEN 16-25 TO
MAKE YOUR MARK ON SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT POLICY

Faith and Belief in Scotland - Young People's Consultation Event

28 APRIL 2008 - SCOTTISH YOUTH THEATRE, GLASGOW

Have you ever wished the Government would listen to your opinions? Well, here's your chance to make your views known to the Scottish Government without ever having to go near a dull consultation document.

By participating in innovative workshops based around creative thinking and theatre you will be able to explore and discuss your views on how the Scottish Government should take forward its work on faith and belief.

This is a historic event. It is the first time that the Scottish Government Equality Unit has used creative theatre as a way of developing policy and it will not simply be another talking shop - your views will be used to directly influence the development of Government policy in this area.

What are faith and belief?

Nearly all of us our lives by some sort of faith and/or belief system. All religions are of course part of this, but things like agnosticism and humanism are all also included here as they are all beliefs which have a profound impact on the way an individual lives their life.

Why do they matter?

Scotland is a multi-cultural society. Developing respect, trust and understanding between each other will help us all to live together, break down barriers and challenge prejudices.

What is the purpose of the event?

To find out the kind of Scotland you want to live in and how we can make our visions into reality.

Who should take part in the event?

Anyone aged between 16-25 can take part in this event regardless of background, faith or belief.

What will I get out of the day?

The workshops will help you develop skills such as drama and debating, and will also provide you with an opportunity to meet other like-minded people from across Scotland.

What sort of things should I think about before coming to the event?

Before coming to the event you may want to think about things like:

  • What does it mean to you to be part of a faith or belief community?
  • How would you break down barriers between and among faith and belief communities?
  • Do you believe we can create a Scotland where all faith and belief communities can live together in harmony?
  • How can we create this harmonious society?

Who will be running the workshops?

The workshops will be run by the Birds of Paradise Theatre Company; 7:84 Theatre Company and the Theatre of Ideas.

What workshop will I be in?

It is important that we have a good mix of people in each of the workshops so you will be assigned to workshops when your application is received.

Where can I find out more about faiths and beliefs?

You can check out the Young Scot site for more information on faith and belief.
