Asylum Seekers & Refugees

Aslym seekers and refugees have unique health based issues born from their unique situation in the country. Some may suffer health related problems due to long travelling or poor conditions in their home countries. Questions of accessibility and quality must be addressed, particularly since this group tends be highly mobile and thus have issues with registration at health care facilities. Also finding sutiable and sensitivly trained translators and other staff are issues that must be addressed.

• Asylum Seekers in Dispersal - Healthcare Issues (2003)

  This is a summary of a study which examined the provision of healthcare services for asylum seekers in areas to which they are dispersed by the National Asylum Support Service (NASS). The study investigated the accessibility and quality of healthcare provision for asylum seekers in dispersal areas; examined the impact of dispersal on the health of asylum seekers and identified existing and emerging good practice.
