Civic Participation

By civic participation we refer to the involvement of Scotland's people in the process of policy-making other than through elected representation. Participation is usually achieved through the process of consultation, as well as through participation in elections and contributing in a number of different ways to the 'community'. A consideration of equality issues in this policy and research area should take account of the potential barriers to participation that may be experienced by different groups of people.
