Age

Incorporating citizins of various ages into government is essential if we hope to reflect all of Scotland. Young people and older people have great gifts to share along with varied opinions, perceptions, and goals for their interactions with governmental bodies. Reflecting on how to work with these populations can greatly strengthen government policy and research.

• Scottish Youth Parliament The SYP provides a forum for young people to raise their voices as well as gain experience in working with government.

• The Determinants of Volunteering (1995) This study identifies some of the key factors which determine an individual's involvement in voluntary work

Institute for Volunteering Research

• 'Generation V' - Young People Speak Out on Volunteering Key findings from research which was commissioned by the Home Office to inform the Russell Commission on the attitudes towards volunteering and extent of involvement in voluntary activities of young people in England.
• Age Discrimination & Volunteering Volunteering by older people benefits both the individual and the organisation to which they offer their services

Office of the Deputy Prime Minister

• Equality and Diversity in Local Government in England: A Literature Review (2003) This report provides an overview of recent literature which examines how local authorities in England have dealt with issues of equality and diversity. Three themes are covered in relation to equality and diversity: representation and participation; employment; and services.
