Research undertaken by the Scottish Arts Council has identified key areas where there is work to be done on ensuring that, for example, minority ethnic communities in Scotland are able to participate in and benefit from arts projects and policies. A review undertaken for the Arts Council England in 2001 found that many commentators suggest that a consideration of social inclusion should have an impact on arts policies and practice and that participation in arts activities may have a number of positive outcomes including: improved understanding of other cultures, increased self-confidence, increased educational attainment, social cohesion and reduced offending behaviour.

- Cultural Diversity Case Studies (2004) This booklet gives brief descriptions of some of the arts organisations and individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds which are supported by the Scottish Arts Council.
- Cultural Diversity Strategy 2002-07 (2002) The Scottish Arts Council's Cultural Diversity Strategey sets out its approach towards developing and promoting creativity, the arts and other cultural activity in Scotland.
