Social Inclusion

Social inculusion is an important topic to consider when beginning new research or policy in the areas of agriculture and rural development. Some research suggests that rural living is becoming 'gentrified' as rich people move out to the countryside and poorer people move into urban areas. Minority groups can suffer from social exclusion in rural areas, and access is always an issue. Keeping in mind the multiple groups that must be served by any policy or research will help mainstream social inclusion into agriculture and rural development.

• Exclusive Countryside? Social Inclusion & Regeneration in Rural Areas (2000) Explores issues of social inclusion and regeneration in a wide variety of rural areas throughout Britain, finding that rural areas are changing rapidly and unevenly under a number of pressures, with divergent consequences for different places and different social groups.
