Department: DIRECTOR-GENERAL HEALTH and Chief Executive NHS Scotland
Group: Healthcare Policy and Strategy Directorate
Division: Patients and Quality
Branch: Health Quality and Safety
| Aims of the Policy |
|---|
| What is the purpose of the policy (or the changes made to the policy)? | To replace existing guidance - CMO(2007)3 - to provide a framework within which decisions regarding arrangements for combined NHS and private healthcare can be made by NHS Boards. The key change to the existing policy is, for the purposes of combining NHS and private healthcare, the introduction of a degree of flexibility to facilitate permission for both NHS and private treatment of one condition during a single visit to an NHS organisation. |
|---|
| Who is affected by the policy or who is intended to benefit from the proposed policy and how? | Any patient who wishes to access medicines that have not yet been approved for use within the NHS in Scotland. |
|---|
| How has the policy been, or will be put into practice, and who is or will be responsible for delivering it? | The guidance will be issued in March 2009 (date not yet confirmed). |
|---|
| How does the policy fit into the Scottish Executive's wider or related policy initiatives? | This policy is consistent with that of the Department of Health and fits within the wider policy context of patients rights. |
|---|
| Have the resources for the policy been allocated? | No |
