Working with Schools and Higher Education
Promoting social enterprise in schools
With the continued support of the Scottish Government's Third Sector Division and Determined to Succeed programme, the Social Enterprise Academy has expanded the programme and delivery of social enterprise training for schools and supporting 15 schools across Scotland to develop social enterprises which support learning. Their achievements were recognised at a Social Enterprise Schools celebration event on 9 June at the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow. The Social Enterprise Academy is currently developing a resource for S5 and S6 pupils to show the range of careers and opportunities offered to them by social enterprises.
Qualifications at levels 4 and 5 of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF)
· We are working with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), the Determined to Succeed programme and the Social Enterprise Academy to identify units within the new flexible National Progression Awards in Enterprise and Employability (SCQF level 4 (intermediate 1) and SCQF level 5 (intermediate 2)) that may be suitable for adaptation to social enterprise. We are in discussion with the Social Enterpise Academy and Learning and Teaching Scotland to discuss the development of appropriate learning and teaching support materials with a view to piloting these in a number of schools in the academic year 2009-10
Promoting social entrepreneurship in further and higher education
· We have engaged initially with a number of key further and higher education institutions, the Scottish Social Enterprise Coalition (SSEC), the Scottish Institute for Enterprise, the Social Enterprise Academy Higher Educaton Institutions and others, to seek views on what opportunities might exist or be created to help foster greater engagement in social enterprise in the further and higher education sector. A particular focus will be on placements, business links with social enterprises, and profile raising amongst students. A pilot plan of engagement is currently being developed. Details will be published here.
