Eight local Community Justice Authorities (CJAs) have been established to provide a co-ordinated approach to planning and monitoring the delivery of offender services by planning, managing performance and reporting on performance by local authorities or groups of local authorities. Their aim is to target services to reduce reoffending and to ensure close co-operation between community and prison services to aid the rehabilitation of offenders.
Each CJA consists of elected members of local authorities and is supported by a chief officer and a small team of staff. All eight CJAs have been fully operational since April 2007 and can be contacted as follows:

Ongoing work
The CJA Area Plans for the period 2008 - 2011 were approved by Scottish Ministers in December 2007. CJAs are now working with their partner agencies to implement their three year area plan.
Community Service Visibility Projects
Fife and Forth Valley CJA, Glasgow CJA and South West Scotland CJA, with their partners, each carried out a six month project to raise the profile and understanding of community service within their CJA area. The analysis report on the individual projects and findings is now available.
