Joining the Force

The responsibility for recruitment of Police Officers in Scotland lies with each of the eight individual Forces.

Basic recruitment criteria requires that applicants should:

  • Be aged 18 years old or over
  • Be a British citizen, or a citizen of the EU
  • Have good eyesight
  • Complete a physical assessment
  • Be of good character

Whilst these criteria hold for all forces within Scotland, individually forces may have additional criteria which applicants must comply with.

Anyone interested in applying to join the Scottish Police Service should contact the Force within which they wish to serve to gain full details of their person specification.
