Recommendations

Following changes to HMICS Inspection methodology in 2007 a review was undertaken of all the recommendations which had been made in reports published between 2002 and April 2007. Each of these recommendations was risk assessed in light of new thinking on scrutiny and self assessment and a view was taken on what, if any, further action/information was required by the Inspectorate. Thereafter the Inspectorate sought an update from forces and ACPOS on areas where further information was needed to complete the risk assessment.

There were 440 recommendations in the reports during this period and these fell into three main categories as follows:

1. Those which were no longer relevant, taking account of new developments or other environmental factors, but which may still be worthy of further discussion within forces/ACPOS to ensure no further work was required.

2. Those on which the work which had been undertaken was sufficient to consider the recommendations as 'discharged'.

3. Those where it was clear further work was required or where planned HMICS inspection activity would result in further scrutiny of the subject matter.

Subsequently the results of this work were communicated to forces and ACPOS. A full record of this process has been retained and further information on individual recommendations can be obtained by contacting the Inspectorate via the contact details section on our home page.

An Excel spreadsheet containing all of these recommendations can be accessed by clicking here.
