Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) is responsible for administering the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme throughout England, Scotland and Wales. They pay compensation to eligible applicants who have been the victim of a violent crime, for example a physical assault or sexual offence.

Scottish Ministers and the Home Secretary have joint responsibility for the general oversight of the Scheme but the decisions on individual applications rest exclusively with the CICA. Ministers cannot intervene in decisions taken by the Authority or the Appeals Panel.
