REMIT

Aim

To bring together key partners to work with the Scottish Executive to oversee the completion of residual work relating to the implementation of phase one and to develop and take forward the practical measures required to ensure the effective implementation of phase two of the Vulnerable Witnesses Act relating to adult vulnerable witnesses in High Court and Sheriff Court solemn cases and Children's Hearings court proceedings from 1 April 2006.

Objectives
  • Identify the need for, and ensure the production of, appropriate procedures, advice and guidance for practitioners to ensure the effective implementation of phase 2 of the Act;
  • Advise on any secondary legislation required to implement the Act to ensure that it is fit for purpose;
  • Oversee the piloting of the Vulnerable Witness Officers;
  • To ensure the effective management of the contract for monitoring and evaluating of the impact of the Act, and advise on any action arising from this work.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for the effective promotion of phase 2, including the production of publicity and information material and for raising awareness amongst stakeholders, including witnesses themselves, of the Act's provisions.
