Dear Colleague

Purpose of the circular: To provide clarification on the pay of sergeants promoted to the rank of inspector between 1 September 1996 and 31 March 2003.

Summary of contents: Any sergeant promoted to the rank of inspector between 1 September 1996 and 31 March 2003 and who had on 31 August 1994 served for four or more years as a sergeant, should on promotion to Inspector, have been placed on the second point of the Inspector's pay scale.

Chief constables are asked to put in place arrangements that reflect this clarification.
