Dear Colleague

Purpose of the circular: To convey Scottish Ministers' approval for the implementation of the agreement in relation to the assimilation procedures for Sergeants pay as set out in the memorandum attached to PNB Circular 04/10.

Summary of contents: Paragraph 18 of the assimilation procedures attached PNB Circulars 02/9 and 02/19 dealt with anomalies in relation to the new Sergeants pay scale introduced in April 2003. This provided that for all sergeants who entered the rank between 1 April 2002 and 30 September 2002, their incremental date would change to 1 October from 2003, until they reached the top of the scale.

It has now been agreed to rescind, with retrospective effect, the incremental date of those sergeants who entered the rank between 1 April 2002 and 30 September 2002 with 12 or more years' reckonable service as a constable.

These changes will be formally promulgated in a Determination under the relevant Police Regulations in due course.

Also attached are details of all circulars issued in 2004.
