In May 2003, the First Minister announced the Scottish Executive's legislative programme which included a commitment to publish draft primary legislation in the first year of the new Parliamentary session.

Consultation on Legislative Proposals

On 1 October 2003, the Scottish Executive launched its consultation paper The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service: legislative proposals is available at: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/consultations/justice/sfrs-00.asp

Following the launch of the consultation paper by Cathy Jamieson, Minister for Justice (news release available at: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/pages/news/2003/10/SEJD323.aspx ) the proposals were debated in the Scottish Parliament on 8 October.
