Re-inspection Reports 2004-05

Performance Inspection Reports 2004-05

The eight Fire and Rescue Services in Scotland were inspected by HM Fire Service Inspectorate between October 2004 and February 2005, in order to assess their performance and continuing progress towards implementation of the Modernising Agenda. The reports of these inspections are as follows:

Community Fire Safety (CFS) is a vital field of endeavour for Fire and Rescue Services, in keeping with the strategy of achieving improved public safety through fire prevention. It is complemented by Community Planning (CP), the process of cooperation between Fire Authorities / Joint Fire Boards and other organisations in the public, voluntary, and private sectors in order to secure greater well-being for their communities.

The two documents above are intended to provide guidance to Fire and Rescue Services with regard to CFS and CP; they may also be of interest to other people involved in these areas.

Fire Safety in Care Homes

Joint Statement by HM Fire Service Inspectorate for Scotland and the Care Commission regarding Fire Safety Practices in Care Homes

This joint statement on fire safety in care homes is the latest initiative in a range of actions which have been taken by the Executive, and also in some instances in partnership with the Care Commission and Fire and Rescue Authorities.

The Fire and Rescue Service: Working With Young People in the Community (pdf) (2003)

This report was jointly produced by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), the Fire Service Inspectorate for England and Wales, and the Fire Service Inspectorate for Scotland. It reviews progress in working with young people and identifies examples of good practice which can be shared.

Report of the Principal Inspection of Strathclyde Fire Brigade, carried out in August 2003.

Part-time Firefighters

A follow-up report to the Retained, Auxiliary and Volunteer Firefighters research published in April 2002. This report details the findings of a programme of research conducted to investigate ways in which part-time firefighters can become more integrated within the Scottish Fire Service.
