Joint Birth Registration

The Scottish Government believe that it is best for children to grow up with the involvement of both parents in their lives, as long as it is safe, practical and in the bset interests of the child. Jointly registering the birth can be the first step.

You can find out more in our leaflet about Joint Birth Registration. This leaflet provides information about:

  • How and where can a birth be registered?
  • What are the legal implication?
  • What are parental responsibilites and parental rights?
  • The arrangments for existing children?

You might also want to speak to someone or find out more information about family law. The links page contains links to organisations that may be able to help you.
