WHAT IS AN ABDUCTION?

When a child is taken away without consent or lawful authority from a person who has the right in law to care for him or her, then that child has been abducted. When a child is removed across an international frontier either having been taken from the care of such a person, or having been removed without such a person's knowledge or consent, then this constitutes an international child abduction.
