Malawi Development Programme
Scotland has a special link with Malawi, one of the world's poorest countries, dating back to the work of missionaries and Dr David Livingstone. For 150 years Scots have worked with the people of Malawi, helping them develop basic education and health systems.
We are keen to strengthen our alliance by extending the hand of friendship to Malawi as it strives to meet its Millennium Development Goals. Our governments are working together to build a civic coalition in both our countries - a partnership of skills and expertise that will help fight extreme poverty
The Scottish Government recognises and encourages links between individuals and organisations to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and to poverty allieviation.
Guided by the Government of Malawi, the International Development Fund is supporting a range of projects through the Malawi Development Programme, which are delivering on the four policy strands of the Co-operation Agreement: civic governance and society, sustainable economic development, health and education.
The Malawi Development Programme currently supports over 40 projects in Malawi.
