Asia

The International Framework highlights South Asia as a growing market for Scotland and we are committed to developing a strategic approach of engagement with the region.

The South Asia Plan sets out the context of our engagement with countries in this region including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan, and describes links which currently exist between these countries and Scotland.

There are three other elements to this engagement:

  • The South Asia Development Programme covers international development work in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and is supported by the Scottish Government's International Development Fund. The outcome of the funding round was announced in August 2010
  • The India Plan was published in March 2010, and focuses activity on the four key areas of trade and investment, education and science, tourism and culture
  • The Pakistan Plan was published in September 2010 and we are currently in discussion with stakeholders to identify existing links between Scotland and Pakistan
