Breast and Cervical Screening National Advisory Group

Remit

To advise Ministers and the Scottish Government on clinical and policy matters related to the implementation and development of the national breast and cervical screening programmes including:-

  • the monitoring of the programmes' effectiveness and efficiency;
  • monitoring of quality assurance and performance standards;
  • to advise on the development of evidence and information to NHS Boards;
  • review evidence from trials and research and consider and approve relevant screening research proposals;
  • to advise on programme developments and policy and their implementations for NHSScotland.

The group will meet approximately 3-4 times a year and will be able to establish short-term working sub-groups to consider specific issues and report back to the main Group or relevant specialisms will be co-opted onto the Group for short periods of up to 12 months.

Membership will be for a initial 2 year period from January 2004. Secretariat for the groups will be provided by National Services Division, NHS National Services Scotland.
