Reduce child admissions

Commitment 11

"We will reduce the number of admissions of children and young people to adult beds by 50% by 2009."

Child and adolescent inpatient bed numbers to be increased from 44 to 56 by 2010. West of Scotland beds will increase by the end of 2008 to 24 when the new build adolescent unit based at Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow is complete.

Related policy

The Framework (2005) commits to the provision of developmentally appropriate services across Scotland for Children and Young people requiring inpatient care. The Scottish Executive's Children and Young People's Health Support Group has published detailed recommendations on the size, care models and commissioning arrangements for psychiatric inpatient services for children and young people in Scotland.

CAMHS Conference

Over 140 CAMHS staff attended a Conference in Spring 2007 to plan the next steps in implementing the Framework. The conference focussed on hearing from those with direct involvement in delivering care. A summary paper on the outcomes of the conference is available.
