Depression

Commitment 3

"[By 2009] We will work with GPs to ensure that new patients presenting with depression will have a formal assessment using a standards tool and a matched therapy appropriate to the level of need. We will also develop treatment models for those who have depression and anxiety and who have coronary heart disease and/or diabetes who are identified under the new QOF arrangements."
What is the background to this commitment?

The learning and evaluation of the Doing Well by people with Depression (DWPD) programme has been developed into and developed a guide to setting up supported self-help in Primary and Community Care settings. This publication supports both this commitment and has informed the development of ICPS for Depression ( Commitment 6 ) amongst others.

A summary of our current work is available. This ranges from X to Y including Z.

What is the Doing Well Development Network?

DWPD hosted a successful Network during the course of the programme. Although DWPD has now finished we are committed to continuing the Network to meet the DFMH commitments and targets. The Network will help those working in services to deliver:

The new Network is working to help those working in services to deliver the HEAT target in the levelling off of prescribing of antidepressants as well as the commitments in implementing standards for the depression ICP, increasing availability of evidence based psychological therapies and tacking the physical health needs of those with depression and anxiety i.e. with diabetes and CHD.

When does the network meet?

The Network meets a few times each year to discuss the committments above:

  • April 2007- launch of the network
  • September 2007 'Communities' meeting report
  • March 2008 Child and Adolescent Mental Health and depression
