Commitment 8
"Ensure that people are managed and cared for more effectively in the community and avoid inappropriate admissions by ensuring that the crisis standards are achieved by 2009."
The National Standards for Crisis Services were published in November 2006. The standards were produced by a voluntary sector partnership between SAMH and MHF in wide consultation with service users, carers, professionals and other interested groups.
Delivering for Mental Health committed to ensuring that these standards are achieved by 2009 to achieve and support this SAMH and MHF are running a crisis project learning network. This aims to:
- Prepare services to implement the standards;
- Share ideas and good practice in current crisis service development;
- Enhance knowledge and skills in particular aspects of crisis development;
- Establish a forum to try out new approaches to crisis services;
- Develop a practice toolkit (April 2009); and
- Disseminate learning and good practice to the wider mental health community.
The Crisis Standards Learning Network are looking at each of the standards and drafting a practice toolkit to help services meet the standards. This is due for publication in Spring 2008. For further information visit the crisis toolkit and crisis toolkit support pages.
