The Mental Health Legislation Reference Group was established in March 2001. Its remit was to act as a consultative body to which the Executive could refer issues for consideration and comment during the preparation of the Policy Statement 'Renewing Mental Health Law'.
The Reference Group continued to assist with the development of the Bill. After the Bill was passed, it was agreed that the Group should continue to meet through the period of implementation, in recognition of its much valued role in informing the work of the Executive. Notes from recent meetings of the full reference group are available via this link.
Report of the Working Group Investigating the Role of Curators ad Litem
In June 2006, the Deputy Minister asked Ian Miller, Chairman of The Mental Welfare Commission to chair a working group to look at the issue of curators ad litem in relation to Tribunal hearings. Ian Miller's group reported to the Minister in February 2007 and the Minister has now considered the report. A copy of the Report is attached together with a copy of the Minister's response to Mr Miller and a letter from Geoff Huggins.
